This 1 night Journey takes you to two of UNESCO World Heritage castles and an adventure in Kakum Rain Forest Reserve
Day 1 – We depart early for the 148km drive west and mainly inland towards Cape Coast. Marvel at the ragged landscape with small towns and villages scattered by the roadside. The Chaotic street vendors amidst the traffic Jam may excite you. The final stretch to Cape coast castle will take you through the old colonial quarter with their iconic buildings, albeit in a state of disrepair.
On arrival at Cape Coast. Be prepared to have your heart strings pulled as you are taken on the guided Tour of the Castle and dungeons. You will learn about the slave trade. The truth about what the African’s endured would move you.
A short walk across the bridge from the Castle is the main fishing village. Here you will see the fishermen bring in the fresh feast of the sea, octopus, prawns and the fishmongers on the beach cleaning them. Duration is approximately 1hr 30mins
Where is the Jungle? I hear you ask
North from Cape Coast is the Kakum rainforest reserve. This national park is home to, flora fauna and variety of wildlife. Change your point of View and conquer the dense jungle from the canopy walkway which is 7 walkways suspended 30metres above tree tops. Not your cup of tea? Do not worry, you will have the opportunity to take a hike in the Jungle- Duration is approximately 1hr 45mins.
Day 2- After breakfast, we journey to Elmina known to the locals as Mina. The fort, perched up on the top of a cliff dates back to 1482. It is the largest of all the slave forts in the world and the oldest in Sub- Sahara Africa. This fort was also believed to have been visited by Great explore Christopher Columbus. You’ll be consumed by HIS STORY the guide will take you through the dungeons and museums. After the guided tour, you will time at leisure to stroll around the arts and crafts stalls the market or take a dip in the sea. Indulge in the local street food delicacy of fried octopus and a baked corn bread.
We depart early afternoon for the drive back to Accra. Approximately Journey time is 4hrs.
